A finely cast Ancient Roman miniature bronze dish. The body is smooth and hemispherical with a rounded base and a thin everted lip. The vessel is in good condition, featuring earthy encrustations and a green patina all over the body. During the Roman period, vessels were made in great quantity and manufactured in diverse materials, including glass, pottery, stone and metal. Metal-based vessels were usually manufactured from copper alloys, widely available in the ancient Mediterranean. The properties of bronze allowed vessels to be manufactured by either casting or hammering, thus enabling a relatively fast production. Measurements: Diameter~9.5cm, Height~6.3cm Provenance: Ex Collection of a deceased Japanese gentleman, collection acquired 1970-2010.
