Ancient Egyptian Faience, Blue fine Pectoral winged Scarab. 1070-332 BC. 12 cm L. Spanish Export License. Pectoral winged Scarab.

Pectoral winged Scarab. - nice color - Ancient Egpyt, Third Intermediate Period - Late Period, 1070 - 332 BC Blue faience. 5,5 cm height and 12 cm large. Condition: Intact. Provenance: Old private collection, B. P., France, 1970 - 1980. This winged scarab consists of three pieces: an actual scarab beetle and two separately made wings. The wings are not those of a beetle, but those of a bird, as is apparent by their shape and the indication of individual feathers. Each piece features several small holes that were used to fasten the winged scarab to the wrappings of a mummy. Winged scarabs, meant to guarantee the rebirth of the deceased, were very popular funerary amulets. A scarab amulet was often placed over the heart of a mummy to act as its protector. The wings allowed the scarab to join the daily rising and setting of the sun, a cycle that was equated with eternal death and rebirth. With spanish export license. The seller guarantees that he acquired this piece according to all national and international laws related to the ownership of cultural property. Provenance statement seen by Catawiki.
