Paleolithic Stoneware Biface - 110 mm (No Reserve Price)
No. 84062263
No. 84062263
This fine quality manuscript leaf is from a remaindered Koran in very mixed condition, but some of which could be saved. It was scribed at the end of the Timurid dynasty in a strong, elegant, naskh script. Gold rosettes mark verse ends, and margins have a profusion of medallions indicating 5th and 10th verses. Sura headings are within very fine illuminated panels inside cartouches of floral scrolls. A worthy addition to a collection of early Islamic manuscripts, some 500 years old and during the early Tudor period in England.
