Europe, Map - Italy / Mantua; Hartmann Schedel - Liber Chronicarum / Nuremberg Chronicle - 1481-1500

Early woodcut view of Mantua by Hartmann Schedel. From the famous Liber Chronicarum also known as the Nuremberg Chronicle, printed in Nuremberg by Anton Koberger in 1493. Leaf number LXXXIIII. The woodblock cutters were Michael Wolgemut, the well-known teacher of Albrecht Dürer, and his stepson Wilhelm Pleydenwurff. Wohlgemut was Albrecht Dürer's tutor between 1486-90. Since the young Dürer was active in Wohlgemut's printer shop during the time the woodblocks for the Nuremberg Chronicle have produced, he may also have collaborated, since some of the cuts bear a remarkably close resemblance to his Apocalypse illustrations. Dimensions 28 cm x 40 cm Artist or Maker Hartmann Schedel Medium Woodcut Date 1493 Condition Report This work is in very good to excellent condition overall. Please review the images carefully for condition and contact us with any questions. This item is professionally protected by handmade packing. The Certificate of Authenticity is included.
