ABOUT THE PAINTING:
This large scale painting is part of a collection started with sketches in a car in a road trip to the Omani mountains, in the Gulf region. It soon became
a series of paintings on canvas and paper, where earth, sand, stone,
lush vegetation and ancient weaving traditions permeate through the works, in a series evoking the power of
natural movements which transform landscapes. Strong lines evoke the movement of land across the centuries, split apart and transformed by ever changing realms. This collection is about impermanence and beauty and the power of permanent movement

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Cristine Balarine is an emerging Brazilian artist and architect based in between the Aeolian Islands, Sicily and Abu Dhabi. With a Master’s degree in Architecture from the Bartlett, University College London, and a background in Florentine Renaissance art history, Cristine’s art practice seeks to rebel from the rigour and ultra-rationalization of her architectural background in her large-scale abstract compositions. In addition to her independent visual art practice, Cristine has been involved as an architect in several projects with sustainability certifications, most recently as a site associate architect at the Zayed National Museum of the UAE by Lord Norman Foster.

Cristine’s works have been selected to be exhibited in international galleries including the London Biennale in the UK, Florence Biennale in Italy and World Art Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. Her passion for collaboration has led her to engage with musicians and DJs, merging visual art and music in immersive performances. She is currently establishing an open studio in the picturesque Aeolian Islands in Sicily where she will exhibit her solo works starting in winter.
