Sony - WM-D6C Walkman

The paramount & finest of the Walkman cassette range, produced for pro users with a host of features. I am a vintage HiFi hobbyist, my passion started in my early years whilst working in Hi Fi Audio outlets on the most famous HiFi high street at -Tottenham Court Road - London in the early 1980's. Since this period I developed a passion for vintage HiFi / Radio and Amateur Radio. I also service and repair these items on my workbench in my spare time. This particular Walkman is in full working condition and has been owned by me as part of my personal collection. It has seen very minimal use indoors when it was occasionally connected to my HiFi system to record the odd tape or two, otherwise stored in its box. As a result this unit is in MINT condition - pretty much as new, (look at the pictures to satisfy yourself...Likewise, so is its case, in mint condition, the strap has not been removed from its packaging and the unit is complete with its original box, 2 instruction manuals, a Sony cassette tape and a Sony mains 3-pin UK power supply, (the power supply can be connected to a 3 to 2 pin adapter for use with 2-pin mains supply). The WM-D6C is the updated model of the WM-D6 offering an important extra feature: Dolby C noise reduction. This system, which operates in playback and record mode, improved the dynamic range considerably. Including Dolby C noise reduction in a compact portable was not easy, and the integrated circuits which performed most of the functions had to be made by Sony themselves. The fact that this extra function could be fitted to the WM-D6 without making it any larger was amazing, though it forced some changes, for example the second headphone socket was no longer fitted. Other useful modifications were made at the same time. Most useful of these was the addition of a line-in connector, which allowed direct connection to other audio Hi Fi equipment without having to use the microphone socket. This was a great improvement and helped to reduce the background noise level when recordings were made from line sources, such as a CD player, second tape recorder or a mixing desk. The level meter was also altered so that as well as showing the recording level or the battery condition, it could be switched off to save battery power. The WM-D6C could not really be improved upon and so remained in production almost unaltered for many years. It is a rare find in this condition and I would be surprised if another Sony WM-D6C is found to match the preserved condition of this unit. Will be safely and securely packed for shipping.. Specifications Type: Cassette Recorder Tape Type: type I, CrO2, Metal Noise Reduction: B, C Output: 30mW (headphones), 0.25V (line) Battery: 4 x AA Power Supply: 6V DC Dimensions: 181 x 40 x 95mm Weight: 640g Year: 1985
