Magnificent Art Deco porcelain figurine of a “Wild Bear”, designed in 1923 by the famous artist Gerhard Schliepstein for Rosenthal Art Department in Selb Bavaria, in excellent condition. It depicts a beautiful Wild Bear looking to the side, under-glazed painted in shades of grey color, sitting on an octagonal white base. Gerhard Schliepstein (1886-1963), whose creations become between the most desirable by collectors, completed his studies at the University of Fine Arts in Berlin, worked for KPM starting 1911 and from 1929 exclusively for Rosenthal. Numerous museums exhibit Schliepstein’s work, including the Bröhan Museum Berlin, the Porzellanikon in Selb and the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences in Sydney. While Gerhard Schliepstein's first animal figures for Rosenthal were still completely naturalistic, he increasingly developed an extremely expressive, stylized manner of representation that was oriented towards the essential.
