Magnificent Art Deco figurine, originally titled “Ionische Tänzerin” (German) / “Ionic Dancer” creation of the famous artist Berthold Boess (1877 - 1957) for Rosenthal Porcelain Manufaktur - Selb Bavaria Art Department, in excellent condition. Berthold Boess designed the figurine “Ionic Dancer” in 1913, as find reference in Niecol vol 2, p 55; Fischer 130 #233,234 and Fischer 136 #94. It depicts a beautiful half nude dancer with a long blue skirt, on a round base, inscribed B.Boehs. Berthold Boeß/ Boess attended the Kunsgewerbeschule in Karlsruhe from 1893 to 1901 , later he was a student of the sculptor Fridolin Dietsche. From 1913 to 1934, he work as a freelancer for Rosenthal, designing numerous figurines in the style of Orientalism, Art Nouveau and later Art Deco, which the porcelain manufactory implemented and sold. His preferred motifs were dancers, which he liked to form standing, sitting, kneeling, bending over or in various dance steps. In many cases the upper bodies of these slim, graceful and elongated female figures are naked. Variants arise in the coloring of the hip scarves, which he designed in dark blue or gold. It is in excellent condition, marked on the back of the base with Rosenthal 1923 specific year mark, impressed numbered K201, impressed name of B.Boehs on the back of the base, factory tiny defect on the side of the base, NO chips, NO cracks and NO repairs, please see the pictures as they are part of description.
