Byzantine Bronze Exceedingly Rare Icon with image St. Sisinnios as the Holy Rider killing a Gello & the baptism of

Byzantine Bronze Exceedingly Rare Icon with image St. Sisinnios as the Holy Rider killing a Gello & the baptism of Jesus. Gello (Ancient Greek: Γελλώ), in Greek mythology, is a female demon or revenant who threatens the reproductive cycle by causing infertility, miscarriage, and infant mortality. By the Byzantine era, the gelloudes (γελλούδες) were considered a class of beings. Women believed to be under demonic possession by gelloudes might stand trial or be subjected to exorcism. On the reverse very abstractive image of the baptism of Jesus Christ in the Jordan river. Dove or the Holy Spirit above in very abstractive style style holding the spirit of the epoch. Almost intact only a few edge marks and wavy edges, otherwise beautiful green patina, excellently clear images in very specific medieval byzantine style. Exceedingly Rare Saint Sisinnios an inscription COCINIOC. heigh: 2,4 cm. width: 2,2 cm. Purchased from a German auction house, ex M.G. collection 1970s'. The object will be shipped with an Austrian export license. For buyers outside EU the export license will be issued separately and will take from 1-5 weeks. Please note that we can't interfere this process. Our invoice is also a guaranty of authenticity of the object.
