Seljuk Pottery Oil Lamp
Circa 12th-13th century AD
This pottery oil lamp exhibits a narrow wick spout and the round body of the lamp is subtly domed featuring a raised circular filling channel for the oil. Remains of the original glaze.
The Seljuks, a prominent medieval Turkic dynasty, emerged in the 11th century from the steppes of Central Asia. The foundation of the dynasty was laid by Tughril Beg, and it gained prominence across a vast expanse, including regions of Anatolia, the Middle East, and Central Asia.
