Among the most significant centers of medieval Islamic pottery production were the cities of Kashan, Nishapur, Samarra, Raqqa, and Fustat. Islamic potters employed a variety of techniques to create their wares, including wheel-throwing, molding, and glazing. One notable technique was underglaze painting, where intricate designs were painted onto the surface of the pottery before the application of a transparent glaze. This technique allowed for the creation of finely detailed and colorful decorations.
