Viking Bronze Omega Brooch with Pin and Blue Glass Cabochons
Circa 10th century AD
This nice bronze penannular brooch features a twisted shank fashioned in the shape of the Omega letter. The integral pin is coiled around the shank and both finials culminate in small circular cells inlaid with blue glass cabochons.
Penannular brooches like this were commonly used in Viking culture to fasten cloaks or other garments, serving both functional and decorative purposes.
