Excellent ELTRA 1001, Legendary tape deck.
Danish ELTRA company started making this model in 1961 and ended up production in 1969. 62,000 were manufactured so it’s little wonder they are so common.
The mechanics were imported from the UK- a BSR TD 10 deck. (which was a larger version of the deck used by B&O for their BELCANTO recorder).
Good quality tube electronics, including tape speed equalization and an ECLL800 push-pull audio output stage driving a decent loudspeaker. Very well built with hand wired electronics. The modified BSR TD 10 deck features magnetic shielding around the motor, with a three position control to the right of the usual tape joystick transport control with motor off, reel brakes release and pause functions.
The electronics feature a separate bias oscillator, which allows monitoring while recording – but not off-tape as there are only two heads: record/play and erase.
