O.M.A., Rem Koolhaas and Bruce Mau - S M L XL - 1995

S, M, L, XL (in full: Small, Medium, Large, Extra-Large) is a book mainly written by Rem Koolhaas and Bruce Mau with an overview of the projects of the OMA agency between 1975 and 1995, together with a number of essays and other pieces. The editing was led by Jennifer Sigler and photography was done by Hans Werlemann.

 Book dimensions: 24 x 18 x 7,5 cm

The book contains an overview of the works of Rem Koolhaas's OMA office between the end of the 1970s and 1995. The aim of the book was to break with conventional architecture books, to also explore the lesser sides of the profession. show. The book has an unconventional structure, in the sense that it is not a standard architecture book in which each project is discussed chronologically with clear texts and images. For example, the purpose of the photos in the book is not always clear and texts do not always have an explanatory use for the projects.
The projects are also not arranged entirely chronologically, but according to the order of size of the project.

The first edition of the book had a circulation of 30,000 copies, which sold out within a few months. This led to illegal copies of the book being printed in China for a while and an imitation version of the book appearing in Iran. The second edition had a circulation of 70,000 copies and a new cover, the only difference being that Rem Koolhaas' name is no longer printed in yellow, but in orange. Later, blue, purple and green prints also followed.
