The amulet also features a lug handle at the top for suspension. In the context of the afterlife, the heart played a crucial role in the Egyptian belief system. During the judgment in the afterlife, the heart of the deceased was weighed against the feather of Ma'at, the goddess of truth and justice. If the heart was found to be lighter than the feather, the individual was deemed virtuous and worthy of entering the afterlife. If not, the heart was believed to be burdened by wrongdoing. Cf.
