R. Ditmar - Art Nouveau lamp - glass, bronze and cast iron
Very beautiful and richly decorated ceiling lamp from the late 19th century. The cast iron is beautifully styled. The lamp can vary in height and for this purpose has been provided with a counterweight. The 3 side elements were partially carried out as a kind of chain for this purpose (picture 23) and are guided over the three rollers during adjusting so that it always runs smoothly. The company had patented this(see photo 24). The burner is fitted with a plate bearing the words "brillant meteor brenner lampe patente 1886 89 R Ditmar Vienna.
The lamp is in very good condition for its age. The glass shade is in flawless condition. The oil burner has not been tested by me. Only the edge where the shade rests has a small and apparently very old restoration (photo 18)
The company Ditmar was a major manufacturer of oil lamps in the second half of the 19th century. The company Brothers Ditmar was founded in 1841 in Vienna by Rudolph and Friedrich Ditmar. In 1895, about 700 people were employed.
Sizes: the lamp is adjustable in height from 130 cm to 180 cm and measures 43 cm at its widest.
