In the 19th century, a common pastime among sailors was the decoration of walrus tusks. They were engraved and taken home as trophies. This is a good example of a replica of such a 19th century walrus tusk. It is engraved on both sides in great detal and was probably made to commemorate the captain.
Engraved: Captain James Morgan.
Taken in the Arctic Ocean, on the 27th May A.D. 1849.
