Antique Zoetrope with six different scenes for in the Zoetrope - ca. 1860
Antique Zoetrope from 1860.
The stand is made of wood and metal.
Dimensions: 29 cm high and the diameter is 17 cm.
Including six different scenes for in the Zoetrope, one of which has been glued but this is not disturbing.
The Zoetrope is one of the first animation devices with which moving images could be viewed. The Zoetrope was invented in 1834 by William George Horner.
When the cylinder is spinning, one can see the pictures, mounted on the inside of the cylinder, through the slots. Because the pictures are only visible for a short time, it seems like the images merge, creating the illusion of moving images.
