Kolibri stocking mending machine from West-Berlin

On offer - a beautiful, antique ART DECO stocking mending machine / nylon stockings - darning machine. It is the model: Kolibri ; Made in Berlin Friedenau. With the Kolibri stocking mending machine of the former Berlin company Arno Lohmueller, experienced menders succeeded in fixing ladders quickly and at low cost during the years of the ‘economic miracle’. With a relatively high purchase price in those days, the mending by a ‘ladder-service’ was definitely worthwhile. The word "Repassieren" comes from French and means "to take up ladders". The repair of a long running ladder required approximately 10 to 15 minutes. In the 50s, the owner had to pay approximately up to 40 Pfennig, depending on the extent of damage. New tights would have cost many times more The mender was able to repair around 30-50 nylon stockings per day. In industrial Museum Elmshorn, a similar model is on display and can be observed! Beautiful German workmanship but have not tested it on functionality! Dimensions 22 cm long, 15 cm high and 10 cm deep, metal housing
