For the creation of this prestigious wine, exclusively vines over 10 years old are used, with a predominance of Cabernet Sauvignon, followed by Merlot and a small part of Petit Verdot.
The Château Lafite Rothschild vineyard covers an area of 112 hectares and is divided into three main areas: the slopes around the Château, the Carruades plateau to the west and a 4.5 hectare plot in the neighboring municipality of Saint-Estèphe . The soil is composed of fine, deep gravel mixed with windblown sand, over a well-drained and exposed tertiary limestone subsoil. The grape varieties grown are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
