This elegant Ohi ware vase is a creation by Toshiro Ohi, hailing from Kanazawa city and a graduate of the Tokyo School of Fine Arts (now Tokyo University of the Arts), where he studied crafts. In 1987, he succeeded as the tenth generation Chozaemon Ohi, embracing the rich legacy of the Ohi kiln which dates back to the Edo period. While continuing the traditions of Ohi ware, he also made a name for himself under his own name, Toshiro, with free-form artistic creations. After bestowing the Chozaemon title to his eldest son in 2016, he took on the name Ohi Toya-sai to continue his artistic endeavors. A recipient of cultural honors, Toshiro Ohi was awarded the Order of Culture in 2011 and recognized as a Person of Cultural Merit in 2004.
