This W.L. Weller 12 Years Old was bottled around 2013/14 – as it says ‘distilled by W.L. Weller and sons’. Made at Buffalo Trace, named after the famous 19th century distiller William Larue Weller. Weller was the first to distill straight bourbon from wheat instead of rye. Yes, that’s right, way before Julian ‘Pappy’ Van Winkle became famous for doing so. Back then, most Kentucky bourbon was made with rye from Pennsylvania, while wheat was the common crop in Kentucky. So, a wheated bourbon would become the local product. ‘Distilled by W.L. Weller and sons’ is of course a nifty marketing write-up.

Rare Bottling.
