Dimensions ( in cm) 25 x cm. 13 , weight kg. 3.750 History: Seneca’s head of Pseudo-Seneca is a roman bust made in bronze from the end of the I c. BC, discovered in Ercolano in 1754 and preserved in the National Archaeological Museum of Naples. This is the most beautiful example found among about two dozen busts depicting the same subject. Initially, it was believed, on the basis of Theodor Galle (Galleus) studies, published in “Imagines et Elogia Virorum Illustrium et Eruditor ex Antiquis lapidibus et Nomismatib[us], that it certainly represented Seneca, the Roman philosopher from the 1st c. AD. However, modern scholars agree that this is probably an imaginary portrait -probably from Hesiod, although there is also the possibility that it may be Lucretius. Probably the original bust was a Greek bust lost in c. 200 BC.
