Opel Commodore GS Coupe 1968
With Dutch license plate, MOT to 2-9-2017 (car is supplied with new MOT), mileage 95,700 km.
The Commodore came on the market in 1967. Intended for in the executive segment she was technically more advanced and luxurious, in contrast to the otherwise so sober Opel range. The Commodore had some extra things standard, such as: a 2.2-litre 6-cylinder engine, floor action, better brakes, 14 inch wheels (instead of 13 inch) a luxurious interior, a different grille, more ornamental frames around (also between the rear lights) and a vinyl roof.
Famous and infamous was the sporty top model, the Commodore GS Coupe. These sporty GS-versions were equipped with a 130 HP 2.5 litre 6-cylinder engine with dual carburetors good for a top of 194 km/h. Further the GS characterized itself by, among other things: an interior with extra wood trim, a wooden sports steering wheel, a black sky, (three-point) belts front and in the back, a tachometer, a console with 3 extra meters, 14 inch rally rims and 2 fog lamps in front of the grille. As an option, a second set of fog lights for under the bumper could be ordered.
This beautiful original Opel Commodore GS Coupe was originally delivered new in France. After import from France the car came to a Dutch collector. After some 20 years in the collection the car again has been made technically roadworthy. This copy is very original and in a very special nice condition!
The Interior is immaculate, the luxury seats are still like new, the door panels and dashboard are quite neat, even the ashtray has never been used. The comprehensive dashboard is equipped with the optional "Weltklang" radio that is linked to an electric antenna. When turning the key the car starts immediately, it drives perfectly and shifts smoothly through the gears. With the beautiful and quiet running 6-cylinder there are no unwinding sounds audible where as all suspension rubbers along with 4 new Michelin's, have been replaced. The body is stainless just like the bottom which has never been welded and which even still is in the colour of the body. The paint and also the vinyl top is in a very nice good condition. Chrome is very nice and shiny. All mouldings and emblems (rare!) distinctive for the Commodore-GS are present and in very nice condition. The car is complete with original Jack, spare tire (rally), original trunk mats and original Commodore/GS instruction booklet.
Today, most Commodore Coupe's, which are sold as GS, aren’t authentic. It could not be because they are too rare. Because this relatively rare car in time was popular, very few of them survived. This is a real collector's item.
The car can be viewed and picked up in Heerhugowaard, The Netherlands.
