Lotus - Europa S2 - 1969

This Lotus Europa left the factory in Hethel, UK, bound for New York on 29th March 1969. It had factory optonal extras of Tinted Glass and Air Horns Over 40 years and only 36,000 miles later it appered in the Boston area, having been dry stored for over 30 years. It was in remarkably complete condition. The car was repatriated to Europe in 2010, and has since then undergone a body off, total nut and bolt rebuild, but retaining the original integrity It is now better than new, a finish that Lotus neither had the time or money for in 1969 The body was hand sanded back to the gel coat, revealing only one previous re paintin period, where the colour was changed from Burnt Sand to Carnival Red, the best Europa colour. The doors were very flimsy, so to new old stock doors were sourced, and a new engine cover replaced the original item. All replacement panels were re shaped to acheive a high level of fit. The wondow frames were restored by a specialist, and the pitted windsceen, replaced with a new screen, The car was painted once, then flatted, and a second coat applied, to give a high gloss finish. The chassis was gently media blasted, and re painted with POR15, impervious to most liquds and chemicals. The inner box section was waxoiled. The original bumbers were rechromed at the London Chroming Company,even the original Europa badge was rechromed and relaquered . The engine was sent to classic Car engines of Worcester, for a strip and rebuild, which included new cylinder liners, pistons, main and big end bearings. The cylinder head was skimmed and polished as par of the rebuild. The 1565 Renault engine is fitted with a weber 32/36 downdraught carburettor, replacing the original Solex. The radiator and Smiths heater were both re cored at Europa Engineering, and the gear box also receved a check up. The original suvisors were vinyl welded, as per originals. Identical locks were sourced for the doors, bonnety, engine cover and ignition switch, so that the same key operates all locks. The car is a delight to drive, very easy clutch and gearshift, an typically Lotus, the Rehault engine propels this lightweight car effortlessly, meanig that it will perform as well as modern machinery. The car comes with a Lotus Certificate of Vehicle Provenance, a drivers handbook, and a turnpike ticket from 1977, probably the cars last journey in period, set in a resin key fob. The car has been imported into the EU, although it has not been registered here in Spain, as Spain has it's own extra "import registration tax", which would be a waste paying, if the car goes to a different country. It is located about an hours drive from Alicante, Spain. which in turn serves around a 100 destinations in Europe.
