Mandau, Dayak tribe, Borneo / Kalimantan - Head hunting sword
A large old head hunting sword with finely detailed carved wooden sheath, artful knot work of rattan. Minimal imperfections but not disturbing. A Mandau is used for ceremonial purposes, but also functions as a machete.. The sword is decorated (engravings) and has a interesting shape. Typically, the sword is slightly concave on one side and slightly convex on the other. This copy has an inlay of dots / circles of brass. The richly carved handle with plume has a wrapping of wickerwork rattan.
No small side knife included.
Size: 66 cm.
