Willem Roelofs (1822-1897) a painter of the Hague School, made this 19th century scene at the ende of the 50s. It is a typical Dutch landscape with water, a hay and grazing cows, with above a typical Dutch clouded sky. In the distance you see the RK- church of Abcoude.
Willem Roelofs worked much in the polders around Abcoude. This place is situated south of Amsterdam in the Northwest of the province of Utrecht. Roelofs made a large number of paintings in this region. The river Het Gein evoked in these paintings often atmospheric decor.
Oil on canvas on panel (maroufle); dimensions: 20 x 30 cm, signed at the bottom left. Some notes at the back and a sticker of the former owner, miss J.A. Blijdenstein from Laren.
