Garden gnomes can be recognised by their red pointy hats and of course by the long white beards (for men), woolly boots and leather belt around the rotund belly. They live to be 350 years old on average, make their homes inside mushrooms and their favourite food is the blueberry. This gorgeous garden gnome by well-known Dutch illustrator Rien Poortvliet looks as if it has just stepped out of one of Poortvliet's drawings.
