Splendid statue of Mary with baby Jesus on her arm with a snake under her feet. The snake under her foot refers to her capacity of new Eve. The first Eve was overcome by the snake, the new Eve overcomes the snake. She is thus the personification of the church, virgin and mother: as a virgin she remains unmoved by heresy, as a mother she constantly gives mercy. The statue is made of bronze or zamak? Unfortunately, this is unknown to me. It looks like bronze but I’m not sure. Might also be zamak. And very old and heavy. From the 1920s/1930s. 44 cm high and a diameter of 16 cm. Weight 4614 g. The statue stands on a corresponding loose base. It is 11.5 cm high and has a diameter 26 cm and weighs 2114 g. Therefore the total height is 55.5 cm and almost 7 kg! Very nice piece with age.
