Märklin Alpha 2501 Set F 1, with train, trafo and tracks 1 steam loco F 1, 1 three-aixle tender, 1 four-aixle car, 1 transformator 37540 (unused) 12 curved tracks (R 1, like C track 24130) 2 straight tracks 180 mm, one as connecting track, 1 figure, 1 sheet with decals, manual, small catalogue, other paper work. The loco is hardly used and tested, runs fine. The cars have various modules to modify, partly with magnets for stability. The trafo is unused (tested) with original cable binder. The tracks are also unused. Box has some minor marks. Märklin Alpha was an attempt to produce a kids line. It started around 1990 and lasted for only 5 years. The tracks included were called G 2000 and are a predecessor of the C track. It is almost compatible with C tracks (see last photo, C track on right). The internet provides a tutorial for making it fully compatible. Märklin Alpha was on the one hand not suitable for children because of the hard to use 4-aixle cars. Further the futuristic design did not appeal to the fathers who at last decide on purchases. Both mistakes were considered with Märklin’s “my world” kids line.
