Jos Van Belleghem (1894-1970) - Polderlandschap
Jos Van Belleghem, born in Beernem (1894), took classes at the Bruges Academy with Flori Van Acker. During the war 14-18, he was positioned continuously on the Iron Front, drew and painted frequently, participated in an exhibition in London (1917). After his marriage in his hometown with Ms Emma Daveloose, he moved to Veurne in 1921, where he spent half a century walking and capturing his Westland with its villages and towns, in his rural scenes, in a parade of dunes, fishermen and ports, all pages of a richly decorated pholstered Livre d'Heures, the book of the Veurnse kasselrij.
His extensive work is characterised by love and fidelity. Love! He looked at his country through love goggles. There was nothing more beautiful to him.
The frame is out of place and here and there are small pieces of paint missing, but can be easily repainted.
