John Califano, a painter born in Rome in 1864 and deceased in the USA in Chicago in 1924, moved to Naples becoming a pupil of Domenico Morelli, distinguished himself with his gold medal-winning work at the Milan exhibition of 1880, emigrated to the United States of America moving to various states until he settled in Chicago, where he took part in the National Academy and the Philadelphia Club , His works were based on genre scenes. The painting is in good overall condition, with some small and visible sign of aging, as pictured. Very small restorations emerged under Wood’s lamp.
