Opel - GT/J - 1973

A well maintained Opel GT/J from 1973, where extensive work has been done and no costs have been spared. To bring this car into its present condition and to make it more usable in today's world, within the last two years, the following has been invested: - completely new remanufactured interior - electrical wiring overhauled and replaced from bumper to bumper - fuel ventilation and engine ventilation systems replaced - new Solex carburettor - new spark plugs - underbody coating and anti-rust-protection of the entire body - new radio (currently without speakers) - windshield washer system converted to button-operated Mechanically and body-wise the car has continuously been maintained to keep its nice condition. The car has been repainted by the previous owner, yet it does show some signs of ageing and rock chips in the usual locations. The car is on German historic plates and has been graded as a "2" via Classic Data some time ago. As is always the case with a classic car, there are some things that may need to be handled at some point in the future: - driver side window runners will need to be replaced so the window operates more smoothly (spare parts included in sale), - cabin ventilation may need some attention, - there are some small paint chips (color code is known). The car is still in use, so the odometer reading is subject to change. Also, there is so no way to confirm the car has recorded 80.000, 180.000 or even 280.000 kilometres, as unfortunately the previous documents were lost. This car was a barn find without any documents and keys by the previous owner. So unfortunately there is not much history on offer. However, model designation, optional extras and VIN prove that this is a GT/J originally sold in Germany. With its sleek and aerodynamic design, the Opel GT turns heads wherever it goes. The GT/J was the much rarer starter model for the Opel GT and only offered in select markets, standing out via its matte black details, offering virtually the same creature comforts as the more standard A/L model. The Opel GT is well renowned for its unique pop-up headlights and gorgeous body style - the "baby-vette" is among the most beautiful cars ever produced. 90 hp from an 1.9 litre engine does not sound impressive, but power is completely sufficient due to the lightweight body and nimbleness of the chassis. With its rear wheels drive and low-end torque the car offers endless fun on country roads. It also offers an impressive top speed of 185 km/h, although the speedo optimistically would allow even 240 km/h. The car can be viewed and test driven in Nuremberg, Germany. It is recommended to view the vehicle prior to placing a bid in order to avoid any disappointment. Please contact Catawiki to arrange an appointment.
