Large vintage 1950s shell chandelier shade with tiered ropes of Cowry shells
Very intricate and solid Cowry, Nassa and Puka shell chandelier, handmade from hundreds and hundreds of shells tied to a metal frame. The shells give the chandelier a beautiful natural beach, ivory and cream tone. This chandelier can be used both inside or out and will definitely make a statement. The chandelier was originally purchased in California in the United States.
Fun fact: Cowry shells were used for centuries as currency in Africa and the pacific islands. Cowry shells are also worn as jewelry or otherwise used as ornaments or charms. They are viewed as symbols of womanhood, fertility, birth and wealth.
