Maljakko - Pari muinaisia japanilaisia inkivääripurkkeja - Sengoku Three Sisters - Harvinainen "Maekawa" -kylän - Japani - 1900-luvun alku

The subjects of these jars with a yellow background are the three sisters of the Sengoku period (戦国時代, 1467 – 1615) who had tragic lives. They were the daughters of Oichi (お市, 1547 – 1583) who was the sister of the famous Oda Nobunaga (織田 信長, 1534 – 1582), considered the first “Great Unifier” of Japan. The names of the three sisters are: Yodo-dono (淀殿, 1569 – 1615), Ohatsu (お初, 1570 – 1633), Oeyo (於江与, 1573 – 1626). The Shrine of the Three Sisters was dedicated to them in 1998 and is located on the ruins of Kitano-Sho castle in the city of Fukui, next to the Shibata Shrine. In this pair of Jars there is the "Maekawa" (前川) mark, little known even to collectors of Japanese ceramics and porcelain, because it is a local manufacture (not intended for export) from the Edo period (1603-1868 ), coming from the small village of Maekawa (of which there is a famous woodblock print by Hasui from 1932 entitled “Rainy Night at Maekawa” 相州前川の雨), located between the Nanjo and Itoman regions south of Okinawa.
