Sir Frederick Bridge - The Form and Order of Service for The Coronation of Their Majesties King George V and Queen Mary - 1911

This is a first and limited edition, numbered 101/150, published in London by Novello & Company in 1911. This book includes the choral settings of the music sung, including (among others) Parry's 'I was glad', Handel's 'Zadok the Priest', and 'God save the King!', arranged by Sir Frederick Bridge (1844 1924), organist at Westminster Abbey. This book is an exceptional association copy once owned by George Curzon, 1st Marquess Curzon of Kedleston. There is an owner inscription 'Curzon 1911'. George Nathaniel Curzon, 1st Marquess Curzon of Kedleston, KG, GCSI, GCIE, PC, FRS, FBA (11 January 1859 – 20 March 1925), styled Lord Curzon of Kedleston between 1898 and 1911 and then Earl Curzon of Kedleston between 1911 and 1921, was a prominent British statesman, Conservative politician and writer who served as Viceroy of India from 1899 to 1905. The Coronation of King George V and Queen Mary was held at Westminster Abbey on 22 June 1911. The Order of Service, arranged by the Lambeth Palace librarian, Claude Jenkins and the Dean of Westminster, Armitage Robinson, sought to balance tradition with innovations to modernise the ceremony. Aside from minor changes to the words spoken at the Crowning and the reintroduction of the Sermon that had been omitted for King Edward VII's Coronation in 1902, the service was largely the same as its predecessor. The book's cover displays signs of wear, primarily in the corners, while the pages are generally well-preserved with some discoloration. Despite its 113-year age, the literary content remains in good condition. It's worth noting that both the front and back covers slant upwards, deviating from a straight alignment. Overall, considering its age, the book is in good condition, with the literary content maintaining its integrity. Shipped from Edinburgh (UK) - due to Brexit further duties may be payable on arrival.
