Etablissements Papeghin Paris - Souvenir d'Afghanistan - 1925

NO RESERVE!!! An incredible vintage booklet carrying 46 old and colorized photographs of Afghanistan from the late 19th and early 20th century Afghanistan. Title: Souvenir d'Afghanistan. Kaboul-Kandahar-Galalabad-Laghmann-Pagman. Published by: Etablissements Papeghin. 24, Rue des Petites-Ecuries, Paris. [1925 AD.] This 100-year-old bilingual booklet depicts photographs of old palaces, avenues, fountains, royal entourages and other touristic sights of Afghanistan from an era that no longer exists. It was commissioned during the reign of King Amanullah Khan Barakzai (1919-1929) in a bid to open his country to foreign tourism, part of his larger and ambitious reform plans that backfired dreadfully. The country, once known as the "Switzerland of East", has tragically been devastated by foreign meddling and invasions. This booklet is sort of a window-into-the-past that shows how serene this paradise of a country once was. It is also an incredible source material for future restoration efforts of these historical buildings. Shipping ONLY to: EU/EEA/CH, UK, China & Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, GCC and OECD countries (Excluding Turkiye).
