Jalisco Pottery Sheep Face Female Figure
Pre-Columbian, Western Mexico, Jalisco culture.
ca. 300 BC to 300 AD.
A hand-built earthenware female figure with short spread arms. (part of the right arm missing)
Bracelets, necklace, earrings and a large headdress adorn the woman's body.
The highly stylized face consists of coffee bean eyes, a beaked nose and an open mouth.
The large nose and elongated head indicate a style known as "sheep face", popular among the Jalisco cultures, perhaps a symbolic stylization of a mystical person.
Dimensions: 10cm x 6cm x 2cm, 11cm on included free custom stand.
