DESCRIPTION Introducing a splendid representation of spiritual artistry from the Kamakura period (1185-1333). This is a meticulously hand-carved statue of 聖徳太子 Shōtoku Taishi, Prince Shōtoku Prince Shōtoku was born in the 3rd year of Emperor Bidatsu's reign (574) as the second son of Prince Yōmei (later Emperor Yōmei). It is said that he was born speaking and possessed great wisdom from a very young age. Prince Shōtoku, who introduced Buddhism to Japan, became the object of worship in various forms at different ages. This faith developed alongside Japanese Buddhism, primarily centered around Hōryu-ji and Shitennō-ji temples. It did not form a specific sect but instead integrated with local customs, giving rise to diverse beliefs, including local customs, shrine rituals, and the establishment of Taishi-kai groups. The concept of Shotoku faith, also known as Prince Shotoku faith, encompasses the study of these various beliefs centered around Prince Shōtoku and has been passed down to the present day. There are some minor chips and peeling in various places, which is consistent with its age. Please refer to the attached photos for more details. While we will take the utmost care in packaging, please understand that there is a possibility of further deterioration during transit.
