Albin Grau (1884-1971) produced one of the most important films in history, "Nosferatu", directed by Friedrich W. Murnau 100 years ago and a masterpiece of German expressionism, considered foundational for horror cinema. whose influence and innovation survive to this day. The expressionist movement (along with the rest of the Avant-garde of the early 20th century) will be considered "degenerated" by the Nazi regime. Albin Grau himself (a member of a hermetic and occult lodge, the "Fraternitas Saturni", which was banned shortly after by the Third Reich) was threatened by persecution, although he finally managed to emigrate to Switzerland with his family until the end of war. We also know that Grau and Riefenstahl coincided in the film Arthur Robison, "Pietro, der Korsar", whose film sets were designed by then art director Albin Grau. Producer Erich Pommer offered Leni Riefenstahl the female lead role, but after doing a screen test she ultimately turned it down...
