Nice wooden panel with a refined hand-carved relief of an elephant ascending a hill, bearing a load of attributes secured on a double lotus throne on its back.
This imagery hints at the elephant preparing to serve its rider, Fugen Bosatsu (Skt. = Samantabhadra Bodhisattva), the Bodhisattva embodying Universal Goodness, Virtue, and Worthiness. The motif represents the diligent practice of Buddhist principles (praxis). The depiction of Fugen Bosatsu mounted on the elephant signifies the formidable strength of Buddhist practice in surmounting obstacles.
