Ferdinand Hodler (1853-1918) - Joy in Nature (study)
Rare original collotype (1914) of a preparatory study by the Swiss symbolist artist Ferdinand Hodler (1853-1918), well-known by his philosophy of "Parallelism", as a unifying approach to art, by stripping away detail in search of harmony as a whole.
"By means of abstraction, symmetry and repetition, Hodler sought ways to depict Nature’s essence and her fundamental, universal order. He believed these universal laws governing the natural, observable world extend to the spiritual realm."
Numbered.
H 21,0 x W 29,65 cm (sheet);
H 18,25 x W 15,90 cm (matrix).
Provenance: 59th collotype of the original 1914 Hans Mühlestein's folio.
