Andy Warhol: Cinema.
Published by Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris in collaboration with Éditions CARRÉ, Paris. (1st Edition).
Illustrated Softcover. 264 pp.
Very nice and very clean copy with only very small signs of use.
Published on the occasion of an Andy Warhol cinema retrospective in Paris, June-September 1990. Although very important — over 100 films between 1962 and 1968 — the artist's filmography remains the lesser known facet of his artistic practice.
Warhol began to take an interest in filmmaking in 1962, when he was already an established figure in the art world. He joined the New American Cinema alongside Jonas Mekas, Gregory Markopoulos and Jack Smith among others. At its early stages, this new wave of filmmaking was characterized by its underground production, banal subject interests and lack of color or sound.
A publication with a very original design; with eight sections of mainly film stills bisected across the middle, enabling the reader to create his own photomontages plus pictorial card covers with 10 circular cut-outs. Hundreds of images and French text throughout.
