Kinma(蒟醤) is a technique in which a special blade (ken) is used to carve a line pattern on the surface of lacquer that has been carefully applied with a base coat, middle coat, and top coat, and then colored lacquer is inlaid into the hollows. The process of carving out patterns for each color, such as vermilion and yellow, and filling it with lacquer is repeated, and once all the fillings are completed, the surface is sanded flat and then polished over time with the palm of the hand, making it truly the pinnacle of lacquer painting.
