Important statue of Taoist god Wen Chang, or Wenchangjun, in mandarin costume, standing on an square elevated base resting on four legs, holding his scepter ("hu") in both hands. Bronze, with fine dark green age patina and remnants of the original gilding. China, Ming Dynasty. Height: 25.7 cm. Tiny cast defects around the neck, otherwise very good condition. Provenance: Paris auction sale 1985.
