The medal "For Combat Merit" has the shape of a regular circle with a diameter of 31-32.5 mm (depending on the year of issue). The front side of the medal is bordered by a border 1 mm wide and 0.25 mm high. The reverse side of the medal is smooth. Until 1947, a serial number was printed on the reverse of the medal. However, according to paragraph 8 of Protocol No. 176 of the Secretariat of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated January 30, 1947, “further production of USSR medals, with the exception of the Gold Star medal of the Hero of the Soviet Union and the Hammer and Sickle medal of the Hero of Socialist Labor, is carried out without applying a number " The ear of such medals was stamped along with the medallion.
