Very beautiful and powerful 40W beomaster 2000 receiver, 1974-1978 in teak veneer and brushed black aluminum Fully serviced, new bulbs/diodes and readjusted completely New 40W model. The figures suggest a similar level of output to the Beomaster 3000 types, but in fact the new design packed an even bigger punch. This is because of a new output stage design based upon complementary NPN/PNP Darlington transistors (similar to those first seen in the Beomaster 901, only considerably larger), fed from a split power supply. The overall voltage supplied to the stage was roughly the same (63V as apposed to 60V in the old model), but the new architecture allowed the output to be coupled directly to the loudspeakers, eliminating the large series capacitor in the previous design. The effect of this was to dramatically improve the control the amplifier had over the loudspeakers, considerably improving sound quality, especially at high volume levels. The radio section also was all new, making full use of the latest integrated circuits. Five FM preset stations could be set, using thumbwheel controls underneath the right hand side sliding cover. There was also the facility of silent background tuning on FM, though a switch (under the same cover as the preset tuning controls) was provided to defeat this, perhaps to assist in the location of weak signals. Two tape recorders could be connected, and could be switched to enable copies of tapes to be made, in either direction. The set was housed in a large flat cabinet of a similar style to the Beomaster 1200 range, though the “slide rule” pointer was replaced with a conventional dial, operated by a large flush aluminium wheel. A flywheel beneath this made manual tuning very smooth, and the large diameter of the control, coupled with the now familiar dual light tuning indicator, also made it very accurate. To complement slim appearance of the cabinet, a wire prop at the rear could be folded down, tipping the whole machine forward slightly. It is in this position that the Beomaster 2000 looks most attractive. 3 months full warranty
