Piana won three Italian hill-climb championships in various engine capacities and competed as an official rider for Rumi, Ducati, Parilla and Itom, right up to the Yamaha Grand Prix bikes of the 1970s up for auction. During his career Piana preserved many of the old motorbikes he raced on, and particpated later in many classic events on circuits and climbs.
