Breaking Through is a unique contemporary wall sculpture by Maria Ruisi, Latvian artist, PhD engineer and Founder Artist of Abstract Art Gallery in Riga.
The work occupies the territory between painting, relief and sculpture. Its surface is constructed through numerous individually shaped resin formations, creating an almost organic topography of deep ocean blue, emerald, turquoise and metallic highlights.
Hundreds of elongated relief elements appear to move together like scales, waves, feathers or fragments carried by an underwater current. Through this dense field, a luminous diagonal passage emerges. It becomes the conceptual heart of the composition: light finding its way through resistance.
From a distance, Breaking Through presents a powerful movement of blue and green. At close range, its true physical complexity is revealed. Every ridge, contour and transition has been individually formed and finished by hand. Metallic and pearlescent surfaces react continuously to their surroundings: daylight produces cool flashes of turquoise and silver, while directional evening light deepens the blues and dramatically emphasizes the sculptural shadows.
The artwork therefore never appears completely static. Its perception changes with the position of the viewer and with the light of the room.
This relationship between material, structure and light lies at the center of Maria Ruisi's practice. Combining the analytical precision of her background as a PhD engineer with an intuitive approach to contemporary abstraction, she investigates how engineered relief structures can generate movement, depth and changing visual perception.
As Founder Artist of Abstract Art Gallery, Maria Ruisi has developed a distinctive practice centered on sculptural surfaces and material experimentation. Breaking Through is an accomplished expression of this research: a work conceived not simply to occupy a wall, but to interact architecturally with the space around it.
The artwork is presented in an elegant minimalist white deep frame approximately 3 cm in depth. The restrained white perimeter creates a clean architectural boundary around the intensely textured composition while allowing the blue, emerald and metallic relief to remain the absolute focal point.
The reverse is also carefully documented and forms part of the provenance of the work. It bears the artist's handwritten inscriptions and identification, together with gallery documentation. The artwork is hand-signed on both the front and reverse.
Technical details: Sculptural 3D resin relief on hardwood panel · 2026 · 90 × 60 × 2.5 cm · framed dimensions approximately 91 × 61 × 3 cm · unique original work, 1/1 · minimalist white deep frame included · ready to hang.
Provenance: Directly from Maria Ruisi's studio and Abstract Art Gallery, Riga.
Documentation: Certificate of Authenticity issued by Abstract Art Gallery, with gallery identification and authentication documentation.
Condition: Excellent original studio condition. Never restored.
The artwork is accompanied by the gallery's lifetime after-sales support, including conservation and maintenance guidance.
Breaking Through is ultimately a work about emergence: the instant when accumulated pressure gives way to movement and darkness opens toward light. Its relief does not merely illustrate that transformation — the material itself performs it.
A unique sculptural work designed to reveal a different presence in daylight, artificial light and changing architectural environments.
