Anton Pieck (1895 - 1987) - De Cuneratoren te Rhenen
Beautiful, very detailed, nicely framed, large etching by Anton Pieck of the Cuneratoren in Rhenen.
Beautiful display of the Cunera tower and a few houses in a street that his already showed his later style.
Anton Pieck was enlisted for military service in the First World War.
After his promotion to sergeant, Pieck was transferred to the Hague and added to the institute ‘Ontwikkeling en Ontspanning’, for which he taught drawing lessons to other enlisted soldiers.
The new position provided him with more freedom: he was staying at home in Weimar street and dressed as a civilian outside of service time.
In his spare time, he could travel military-wise to the cities that he was interested in, such as Zaltbommel.
In 1917, he made this large etching of the Cunera tower in Rhenen.
That year, he made over twenty etchings in total, which showed that he began to find his final style.
There are many collectors of his work.
